Kelly Luscombe Studio at
The Blue Verandah
Summer
Art 2011
I'm available for private art sessions for a partial week or full week July 18 - July 25, 2011
(Students ages 14 - 17*)
*The age range and length of camp might
change depending on the requests of students for various sessions. I am
not working with students younger than 11 years at this time due to the maturity necessary
for an overnight camp. Shorter, private camps for younger students can be arranged.
Art Sessions
Art Sessions vary according to the age of the students and their responses
to the application form. I impart fundamental art techniques, working
individually with each student's specific interests. The art camp is restricted
to a small amount of students (6 -10) so that I can devote significant
time with each one. To enable the students to develop their own creative
vision, I will be encouraging them to advance their artistic skill . Students
will be expected to engage in some technique building exercises, in addition
to working on their own unique art pieces. Various focuses within the
Art Sessions may include, but are not limited to:
Figure drawing/painting (clothed model)
(faces, figures, hands, clothing and drapery studies
cartoon studies, animal studies)
Landscape painting
(mountains, orchards, rendering of plants and trees
perspective, color variances in nature)
Color studies
(mixing own blacks and greys, color wheel, neutrals, earth tones, warm
and cool, hue saturation and contrast)
Light and Shadow
(charcoal, pencil and paint, rendering of shape and form via light and
shadow)
Painting techniques
(traditional and non-traditional from thin paint to impasto, proper handling
and care of brushes)
Mixed media and Sculpture
(collage, pen and ink, incorporating found objects, wire, wood, metal,
clay, fabric and other unusual materials)
I will be working with clay during longer sessions only as the clay pieces
need time for drying and firing.
Other
activities
For landscape drawing and painting,
we will be taking short walks and/or bike riding around Ojai. During non-studio
times, students may swim in the pool, pick fruit, read, write, play guitar
or other instruments and overall relax. Dance,
yoga, kareoke and evening fires will also be options. There will be some movies available for night time. There
is no TV reception. There is limited computer access for emails. There
might be small trips into the town of Ojai, or a trip to see another artist's
studio.
Meals
Since there are 6 - 10 students maximum, the students (in pairs) will
rotate cooking simple meals and cleaning up. There is a dishwasher. Basic
cooking skills will be taught, if they arent already known by some.
There is an abundance of fresh fruit, avocados and vegetables on the property.
Fresh juice can be made easily. From the Camp application, I will ascertain
what everyone wants to eat during their stay.
Lodging
Students will sleep in bedrooms on single beds with their own sleeping
bags/or bedding. Two students per room. There are bedrooms inside and
spaces in outdoor teahouses to sleep as well. |
